A good book relaxes me, and this one had served its purpose. I have more copies of paperbacks pile in a shelf, yet the past few days had restricted me from reading any of them. Research works, assignments, exams and a lot more stuff have pre-occupied my mind. I didn’t even get time to unwind. But this Sunday is very different because of “Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom.
I was busy doing the laundry when my cousin asked for my help for a reaction paper about this book. I handed her an old issue of the Lathe Journal for it has an article about that. Curious about the whole story, I borrowed her pocket book. When I’m through with the household chores, my passion for reading burnt inside. I started to flip the pages of the book- no fast paced actions, no suspense, no twists and turns, no puzzles…all were life’s lesson. My typical self would prefer another good book, maybe sci-fi, fantasy or thriller; but there’s something here which glued my palm to its cover. The next thing I knew was that I finished the book that very same day and I learned a lot of things from it. Things that were already happening to me but it was only know that I deeply understand and bother to analyze…
LIFE is a series of pulls back and forth, I read. And read more: You want to do one thing but you are bound to do something else. Something hurts you, yet you know it shouldn’t. You take certain things for granted, even when you know you should never take anything for granted. Morrie Schwartz told these things to Mitch, called “tension of opposites”.
The title of the book bears the whole story. You know what keeps me reading? The aphorisms. The lessons. The facts of life. The questions. The answers. Mitch and Morrie shared fourteen Tuesdays- 14 meaningful Tuesday talking about the world, feeling sorry for yourself, regrets, death, family, emotions, fear of aging, money, how love goes on, marriage, culture, forgiveness, perfect day, and goodbye respectively. The student- teacher relationship moved me, for I was a student and there’s a certain “Morrie” in my life. Maybe, this book is a picture of my future. Though promising it still gives pain and fear. The fact that those things have to happen makes me feel sad in one way or another. On the twelfth Tuesday, I found myself straining my eyes from blinking for surely tears will fall (still, they fell). The part when Morrie hold Mitch’s hand as he said this: “If I could have another son, I would have liked it to be you.” touched me. Who in the world will tell those things to me? I’m lucky to have real parents, but hearing those words from others is such a flattery. I may wish for it, but a fiasco will never make a difference. I have heard enough to make me feel fine..My “Morrie” had welcomed me to a brand new life. I wonder: when will she say goodbye? Or will she? Of course time would come – a time to die. But then I learned, death ends a life not a relationship, so whatever happened, we’ll be friends.
Mitch and Morrie had their goodbyes on the fourteenth Tuesday. Morrie died peacefully at Saturday. He was buried on Tuesday. They were Tuesday people.. I would like to tell you, me and my real- life Morrie also meet at Tuesdays. But were not just Tuesday people..we could meet at Thursday or on any other days of the week. We keep in touch, and even if parting time comes, I know saying goodbye will never hurt. I learned how to detach from emotions. This book had taught me. And there’s a message from someone which I treasure very much: In this life, I figure out that saying goodbye is not leaving but is a part of coming back!(+++ I hope that day I’ll be the perfect friend to her and hope she will wait for me as a friend! Just smile!) I agreed. I believed him for I thought that after I said that word it will be over, yet I’m kept attached. Goodbye is just a word, not an act…

Have I opened my third eye? I can't believe this is happening to me..For 20 years of existence, I can't remember any encounter with a ghost. But now, I become a living witness. Where? In the CIT's CR, first floor. It's not my first time to be alone there and there's nothing scary in particular. What puzzles me is a "girl in human flesh who passed by" and then holla!!!DISAPPEAR! IF you think my senses are playing tricks on me definitely you're wrong. I'm that type of person who investigates after the incident. I don't let things passed by without unveiling the facts behind. I check all the cubicles including the little spaces within. No trace of her. Analyzing the time factor, in no way she can leave without me knowing. I'm facing the exit door and I have 20/20 vision. Nor can it be just an image in the mirror for that was out of my sight. If you only knew, how I wanted to shout just to dismiss the ugly thought!!! But my lips are tightly sealed. Only my eyes express what I feel. I'm crying in fright...but before I break into major hysteria, I dry my tears. But my hands are still trembling and the chill is still creeping to my bones....What an experience!!!!!!

aAAah..how many times have I close my eyes, turn around, stand up and smile just to forget the pain setting in. I'm experiencing this slight headache that ruins my concentration. i Can't even understand the story I'm reading on my mail. I can't think of a good idea about the subject to post here. Am I on my way? Or is its the others lane I'm starting to explore? Who, me? Baahh..I think this is the side effect...

His kindness and memories were all to remain...
On the next graduation I topped in the class yet the last year event has brought all the sorrow. On elementary graduation, I am the valedictorian yet the six years of forgetting the pain wasn't enough. In high school, I graduated with flying colors yet another four years of hardships cannot erase the smear of past. Now, one more year and another graduation will come. For fourteen years, I'm almost over grief but it was replaced by worry. Losing my grandmother is one of my greatest fear. The words she has spoken to me seriously makes me afraid and worried:"My child, each day I'm getting weaker and weaker. Mere walking is already a sacrifice. Soon, I'll be resting with your grandfather." Will the coming graduation bring me almost the same tragedy? Is the worst yet to come? Will fate play the same game against me? Let's hope not; I hope not and pray hard. On my graduation day I don't want my tears to play its part for mourning. If I'll cry, it will be for joy and thanksgiving. I want my family to be complete, because for me, success alone is another failure.........

This is my first contribution to one of my closest sisters in this world. Since it is Valentines day today, I will share my opinion about the love month. I was supposed to have a date with my boyfriend today but he was not around... (unlucky that he was too busy for his thesis). But even he's with me right now, I would rather spend an ordinary day because Valentines day is not the only day to show affection to your loved ones. I strongly disagree on giving flowers, dates, and chocolates every February 14 because apart from it, the true meaning of Valentines has been forgotten. Simple yet clear, we must understand that what truly counts is not only the day "Valentine" but also its spirit. We must show 'em that every day is a love day... and we acknowledge the persons that truly cares for us.
As for me, I'd spend my day in my daily routine.. go to the office, work, have lunch with my pals here and then go home at 5pm. No more malling, cuz I know places right now are crowded with thousands of love birds. I'd just be stuck with them. My girlfriends and I supposed to have an all-girl out but we haven't talked it the last time around. Well, I suppose that me and my roommates will spend the evening by just hanging around and do the same things we do inside our palace.
Well, valentines as for my understanding still loses its meaning to those persons who doesn't truly understand how to show affection not only on every february 14th of the month. But still, I am happy seeing people loving each other even for a day... :0)

What's remarkable about February??? Hmmm, it has something to do with the number of days in a year - whether it is a leap year or not. Well, did you know that some believes that people born on this month are said to be abnormal? Not abnormal in the sense that they have disabilities, physically or mentally; if you know what I mean. (Cge n nga, wat i min s Kulang2 daw!). But what makes others excited during this month is The VALENTINES DAY.
