Rewriting an old poem to reinstill courage...
Not alone but frightened
What’s out there to fear?
Silent, but I’m deafened
It’s so hard to bear!
The crushing sound-
Now, that’s what I hear
Something like bomb
And friction against gear
I want to see
But my eyes were closed
I want to move
But I’m stiffened
My mind is shouting:
Go and fight!
My body is trembling
My fists clutched tight
That’s the worst in me
Why can’t I fight?
Braver I must be
To hell with this fright.
I was in battle
Shall I hide?
No, I’m a soldier
I must fight!
